Susan Kiddie gained her BMus and MMus (First Class Honours) in Musicology from the University of Auckland in New Zealand and her Dip.Tchg. from Christchurch Teachers’ Training College in Christchurch in New Zealand. She taught secondary school Music in Auckland, NZ for 5 years and has been teaching elementary Music in Coquitlam School District for 21 years. She presently teaches at Nestor Elementary School as a choral, Orff and Kodaly specialist. Susan is a professional singer (Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, ARCT voice performance), violinist (Grade 8 Trinity College of Music and first year university violin performance), and pianist (Licentiate of Trinity College London, LTCL in piano pedagogy). Susan has been a professional church soloist for over 30 years at Spirit of Life Lutheran Church and for 25 years at St. Andrews Wesley United Church in Vancouver under the direction of Darryl Nixon. She has sung in elite choirs, such as NZ National Youth Choir and Vancouver Cantata Singers, and toured as a soprano soloist to Europe in 2002 and 2006 with Pacific Singers and a Canadian choir directed by Peter Dent. She has produced 2 CDs, Memories of Prague (2002) and Dreams and Songs of Love (2022). Susan serves on 6 boards: CMTA (President), Kodaly Society of BC, BC Choral Federation, BC Orff Society (steering committee for the 2024 National Orff Conference), Spirit of Life Church Council and Mutual Ministry Committee. Susan is a professional registered piano and theory teacher (RMT) and runs a busy studio for private piano and group piano (Music for Young Children, MYCC). She has received many awards for excellence as an academic and performing musician and as an educator, including the UBC Graduate Scholarship while she was pursuing her PhD studies in Musicology at UBC. She is married to Peter Kiddie and they have two adult children, Catherine and Caroline.
